Phillipsburg, St. Maarten

 project list

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Commissioned by the Government of St. Maarten, NA this project was designed to restore the historical Phillipsburg commercial waterfront that had been slowly impacted over decades by hurricane storm surges. As part of this design, PBD staff worked with Balast Needham Engineers to restore a natural beachfront and develop a 1.3 mile waterfront pedestrian promenade that allowed commercial businesses to once again have a waterfront commercial presence similar to the original Dutch township that was originally built in the 1700’s. Located within close walking proximity of the St. Maarten cruise ship port facilities, this project area has become a revitalized hub for both day and nighttime activities providing access to numerous restaurants, shopping, water taxi service and beach activity areas.
